Using (and abusing) the resources you have available is a very important aspect of a job search.
For example, I work for Career Services at MSU. My supervisors read, critique and revise resumes as part of their job. So, when my professor assigns my class to have our resumes critiqued, I was in luck. Not only do I know people who do that for a living, it’s their job, so they have to do it. Apart from giving my supervisors more work to do, my job also has a web site (this website), with a blog (this blog). What a perfect place for me to put a link to my own personal website. Or even to videos I’ve made outside of the content I create for work. My boss also has contacts in my industry (film) that he has introduced me to.
Actually using the services offered by your school or job can really help you jumpstart your job search & career.
If you would like to meet with a MSU career adviser, make an appointment.
