From Basketball to Business

clip_image002As an NBA Hall of Famer and local MSU legend, Earvin “Magic” Johnson has fought hard on the basketball court as well as in his personal life. Now, as a coffee shop proprietor, he’s fighting his latest battle against…scones.

This former MSU superstar has turned his sights to the business world. Magic Johnson Enterprises, a private Los Angeles-based company, has 35 employees and assets of more than $700 million. It works with local entrepreneurs to open franchises in inner-city neighborhoods across the U.S., and has recently signed a unique deal with Starbucks that allows MJE to open franchises and split the revenue fifty-fifty. This basketball star turned business icon proves with a little determination, any career may be possible.
