What song was that?

“I like his song, I’ve never heard it before! ….but who sings it?” Sure, we’ve all heard songs on the go or in a show that we like but have no idea what song it is or who sings it. So naturally, we google it – trying to remember whatever lyrics we can think but its not always easy, sometimes you just can’t remember. These days it seams to be getting easier and easier to find songs we hear as companies and networks are realizing our demand for music identification. Introducing VCast Song ID – okay so not introducing, because it’s not really new. But it’s still sweet. Verizon has developed the technology to be able to identify the song you’re listening to by simply playing the song into the phone. No google search needed. But the VCasts can do way more than that, they get show specific. No one brings characters to life like the CW – “here, the show you watch is linked to the fashion you buy or the music you download.” (Gossip on Demand, The Gaurdian) They have picked up on our generation’s love for music and fashion and have created an interactive website for their young-adult age shows, like 90210, America’s Next Top Model and Gossip Girl. Through this site you cannot only find the songs from each episode, but playlists of the main characters. Next to the songs are direct links to purchase the song, playlist or ringtone.

The most developed of all VCasts right now is the Gossip Girl VCast. Within this podcast is not just the music and tones of Gossip Girl, but videos, wallpapers, alerts, character quizzes and “as seen on Gossip Girl.” The only catch, to access full videos you need a V CAST phone and V CAST coverage. Viral marketing at its prime, but luckily for us next to all songs is a direct link to buy the tunes. The need to scramble to the blackberry to google the lyrics of the song you just heard is so 2007 – just check into these websites or vcasts and get everything music related you need.
